I have a very good friend who is suffering from Dementia since 2012. Because of the 24/7 care he needed, we had to put him in a Rehabilitation facility. We tried three facilities before taking him out to care for him at home. The care got to be too much with him opening the entrance door at night and not remembering to lock it back. We found a very good Assistant Living facility where he has been since early 2022 because we knew he needed professional 24-hour care. The daily support he gets, I believe, is helping him maintain a sense of belonging and identity. Dementia has affected his short term memory; however, he still remembers me, his children, grandchildren and other close relatives.
I also walk for my aunt whose dementia that has progressed into Alzheimer.
I walk to support Alzheimer's in hopes of find a cure for this disease.
