My grandmother had Alzheimer's when I was young. I didn't fully grasp it then, I just knew that she didn't know me anymore and that Grandpa worked to exhaustion to take care of her. Years later my mother-in-law got it. I can not describe the effect it had on our family. I helped care for her in her last months and wished I could do more to help ease her journey. There is no prevention, treatment, or cure for Alzheimer's disease. I promised myself I would do SOMETHING in her memory. I have been an organizer for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Peachtree City for 11 years now. Since I started, my mom had a form of dementia related to illness and My childhood "other mother" is passed away with Lewy Body dementia. Unfortunately there are other family and friends that I did not list.
These women have been 4 of the most important women in my life. I am not just walking one day in October, this is what I do now. I fight for a cure and for those suffering today by raising money for the Alzheimer's Association. If you knew any of these beautiful women or just want to help me make a difference please make a donation in their honor.
Thank you for joining the movement! Alzheimer’s is not stopping and neither am I.
