This year for my first year with the Arbor I am honoring my grandparents. They are the reason I got into senior care and will forever be my greatest influence. Watching a sometimes slow change take such a large piece of someone you love is beyond hard, but with every year and every fundraiser I’m hopeful we get closer to a cure.
My grandmother loved to clean and was able to play the piano entirely by ear. She was a woman with a fiery attitude much bigger than her in stature. She never let anyone leave her house hungry or unloved and had a love of tricks that she passed down throughout generations of our family. My grandpa though much quieter in nature, was confident. He knew what he believed and stood behind it fiercely. He believed in saving where you could and that the greatest job you could ever have was that of being a mother. He served our country faithfully and made sure our family all carried a respect for those who serve. They were together for 60 years and journeyed home just before their 61st anniversary. Alzheimer’s altered who they were, but this is our reminder.
This year is about them. It’s about remembering those who couldn’t remember for themselves.
