WHY DO WE WALK
WHY DO WE SUPPORT THE ALZHEIMER’SASSOC.
The Strong/Hogrefe team
31 years ago, in 1992, my hero, my wife Cheryl became full time caregiver for her grandfather Forrest Strong, who suffered and died from Alzheimer’s. 15 years ago, in 2008 she again became full time caregiver for her mother Cherie Strong Thomas, when she moved into our home and lived with us for 8 years. 7 years ago, in 2016 two things happened, Cheryl’s mother finally succumbed to the disease and Cheryl got her diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s. Through it all the Alzheimer’s association stood by us, they guided us, they instructed us, they gave us tools to live with, and fight this insidious disease. Cheryl has volunteered her body for many drug trials over the years and was recently in atrial that was showing great promise, but it was ended due to lack of funding. These are the reasons we raise funds and walk to end Alzheimer’s. Cheryl is the third generation in her family to suffer from this disease, and we will do anything we can to try and make her the last generation.
