For the fifth year in a row, I'll be fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association on behalf of the Sigma Kappa chapter at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). The Alzheimer's Association is Sigma Kappa's national philanthropy, and our goal is to help fund this critical research so one day the first survivor of Alzheimer's can become a reality. I was a Sigma Kappa when I attended the University of Georgia, and I have served in an advisory role for the Sigma Kappa chapter at ERAU since 2019.
A key study has also shown an increased risk in older adults with a history of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) have a 4.5 times greater risk of developing Alzheimer's than seniors with no history of head injury. If you know me personally, then you know my husband suffered a severe TBI in January 2019 when he was the victim of a hit & run in the Dominican Republic. It makes it even more important to me that additional research is funded to fully understand the relationship between TBI and Alzheimer's and dementia.
Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us now more than ever - and with your help, we can be there for them. Together, we can end Alzheimer's.
