When one hears about this Alzheimer disease, one can only hope and pray that a cure is found real soon to treat and eventually eradicate this dreadful disease.
Alzheimer’s kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's.
I would like to share my story of how our family got affected from this disease. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's around age 67 and passed away at age 69. The biggest challenge this disease poses is not only the loss of memory to the effected person, but the stress that is placed on the caregiver. I visited my dad in India for 2 weeks and during my stay, I spoke to him everyday, shared stories of our past, brought up life events in our family but saw no reaction from my dad. I am extremely sad to say that my dad did not recognize me or my brother during our stay.
I fear that if this disease is genetic and passes on to me or my siblings, it would be catastrophic to my family. I know of many in our community that have been affected and are taking care of their loved ones while dealing with the emotional and financial stress.
This is the reason I would like to be part of the solution in finding a cure for this disease.
