Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Here is a poem I wrote about Alzheimer’s Disease:
The Hands That Once Held Mine
Author: Laura M. Schweitzer 03/08/2017
My father
The hands that once held mine
He taught me many things
Tried to shield me from life's dangers
Told me I could be anything I wanted to be
Disciplined me
So strong
So proud
Loving
Kind
Dementia is stealing him away
I cherish the lucid moments
Agonize the memory lapses
The hands that once held mine
I am now holding
Caring
Guiding
As he slowly slips away
I wish the hands that once held mine
Could hold mine now
I need more strength than I think I can muster
I love the hands that once held mine.
Thank you!
