My grandmother was first diagnosed in the late 1990s and battled the disease until she passed away in 2007. Her quality of life, ability to care for herself, and relationships all diminished as the disease progressed. Additionally, my grandfather took on the role of caregiver and experienced his own unique set of challenges in helping my grandmother battle the disease.
After my grandmother was diagnosed, Alzheimer’s became very personal for my family and we all suffered a great deal because of it. I support the Walk and the Alzheimer’s Association to help raise awareness of the disease and to do what I can to help contribute to a future where families do not experience what mine has.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease. Thank you!
