Once again, Matt and I formed a team to walk 3 miles in DC at the Oct 14th Alzheimer’s walk, honoring John Malatesta (Matt’s Dad).  We plan to walk in our neighborhood again this year.  We hope our previous teammates will join us for the walk, and help us to raise money.  Please check out or LIKE our "Banking On A Memory" facebook page to see all of our pictures and stats from previous walks.

John passed away in August 2016, just two days after his 92nd birthday.  We appreciate everyone who has contributed to this cause for the past several years. In 2014, we started the walk and raised over $4010, followed by $4478, $8973, $6035, $6989, $4610, $6,636, $7,060, and $5,120 in 2022.  The total has exceeded $53,000 for the ALZ association, with an average of $5,990 per year.

The Alzheimer's Association of the National Capital Area placed a plaque honoring John in their headquarters, due to our record-breaking donation total in 2016.

Olympians and Spartan's can provide gift certificates this year, so please contact me if you wish to purchase any for yourself, or as a gift for your family and friends.

Rose will write her own story, so please read her perspective on her home page.  We hope our neighbor's will join us again, and will write their story.  We are truly grateful for their continued support.

Right before his 90th birthday we gave John a book of pictures we gathered of his past 90 years, and he showed it to us every time we visited.  We loved that he read it very often, as it was a new experience for him every time the book was opened.  Also, his wife Rose Marie reconfigured his picture albums from his life prior to his marriage in 1967.  These albums include his World War II photos and subsequent 70th Tank Battalion reunion photos.  John may not have remembered the name of the current President, but that didn't stop him from enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

Big Band Music was his favorite, as was watching old movies such as Gone with the Wind.  The members of the 70th Tank Battalion family miss watching John and Rose Marie dance every year at the reunions.  We will, once again, attend the Annual Reunion of the 70th Tank Battalion Association this September--a tradition that has carried-on for over 70 years!

If you would like to join us on our walk, we would love to have you--please be sure to register via our team page.  We look forward to seeing you virtually online!  In either case, we would truly appreciate your support through a donation.

We're walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, we're committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.

We need your support to do our part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's.  For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.

Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
