This year marks 15 years that I have been walking and fundraising for Alzheimer's. Every one that knows me, knows how dedicated and passionate I am with this cause. So many families are affected by the devastating disease of Alzheimer's. I am proud to do my part in finding a cure and looking forward to the day when we are living in a world without Alzheimer's.
The diagnosis of Alzheimer's changes the lives of many families. It did for my family when we received the diagnosis for our Dad. This diagnosis led me to become dedicated and extremely involved in Alzheimer's disease. While I am not an expert on Alzheimer's, I can share my knowledge and personal experiences. The more I know, the more I can educate families so that no one goes into this journey blindsided.
I walk in memory of my Dad, Samuel A. Brown, my father-in-law Charles A. Snowden, Uncles, Thornton Rice, Alfred A. Cook, Sr. and all others affected by the devastating disease of Alzheimer's.
Our Dad was the kindest man you would ever want to meet. He had a big heart and loved helping people. He showed me more love than any daughter could possibly ask for. In his eyes, I was forever his "baby girl". He loved family and especially loved following my mom around their small town. He greeted everyone with a big smile and a joke or two.
My father-in-law also loved people and would help anyone in need. He always made me feel welcomed and treated me like family from day one. He was a barrel of fun and full of many great stories to tell.
Alzheimer's is a family disease. Not only does it affect the person diagnosed but others as well including family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and church members. It is hard to believe there is a disease that robs you of your memory. For me, this is a hard pill to swallow which is why I will continue to push forward until we have a world without Alzheimer’s.
I am extremely passionate about doing my part in finding a cure for this devastating disease. I am praying for the day when we celebrate the first survivor. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Together we can end Alzheimer's disease. Thank you for joining me in this fight!
