When Larry was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers disease (EOAD) in May 2017, he was very anxious to get into a drug trial. He told the doctors to poke and prod and do whatever they needed to help find a cure.
At that time he was too young (53) for most of the drug trials that were out there for Alzheimer’s disease. He wanted to do whatever he could to advance research into the disease in hopes of first, helping current patients, but secondly, and most important finding a cure for future generations.
Larry was accepted into a drug trial at Georgetown University and we made the trip for his transfusions twice a month for about a year. The drug trial was ultimately cancelled due to insufficient findings. Larry was devastated, but hopeful that he would be accepted into another drug trial. The most promising at that time was a Biogen trial but he was too far advanced to be accepted. That drug is currently one of only two FDA approved drug for Alzheimers, but it has to be started very early in the progression of the disease and is very expensive and not covered by most insurances.
There is still so much to learn about the disease, what causes it and certainly how to prevent it and treat it. We will continue to donate, fund-raise and walk in Larry’s honor and hope we are successful very soon! Please consider donating!! Thank you
Alzheimer's isn't waiting — and neither am I. This year, I'm participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Will you support my efforts by making a donation on my fundraising page? Every dollar you donate helps the Alzheimer's Association® provide care and support to those facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia, and advance critical research. I hope you will stand with me in this fight. Together, we can end Alzheimer's.
