I am a daughter of Alzheimer’s. Since Mom’s diagnosis around 2014, a day doesn’t go by that I’m not faced with some aspect of this disease. I lost my mom, Hazel, to Alzheimer’s in 2021 and this past year, we lost my father in law, who also suffered from dementia. My Aunt Debbie still suffers. Daily, I see patients and family members/caregivers who are in the weeds of the disease and barely treading water, only to end up in the hospital from a fall or mishap while trying to manage at home. This disease is not going away, but the Alzheimer’s Association is placing funds into the hands of researchers making headway to find treatments and ultimately a cure. I will continue to work for a future without Alzheimer’s and other dementias. I will continue to fight so that my daughter or her children won’t have to go through what we went through. Please join me in that fight.
