I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. My mother faced early onset in her 50s and my father took care of her at home for 14 years, until she died in 2001. She was never known in her kind & loving ways by her grandchildren, let alone her great-grandchildren. Her older sister also suffered with Alzheimer's and died in her mid-eighties.The solace our family finds now is that our father died in January, 2022 due to covid; our faith consoles us knowing our parents are together once more....
I have friends, other family members, and colleagues who are dealing with dementia-related concerns. As they navigate what our family faced in 1987- 37 years later we're more aware and cognizant, yet we should be closer to the first survivor.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
