This year, 2024, I am walking in memory my mom, Josepha Siev Schwartz, and dad, Michel Schwartz. My mom worked as a nurse and administrator at a nursing home for nearly 40 years. Her compassion for her residents was unsurpassed. Of course many of them suffered from forms of dementia, including my dad for the last few years of his life. She taught me the meaning of empathy, kindness and giving back. I am so proud of her and what she accomplished in her life and career, and miss her dearly.
My dad suffered from the horrible affects of this disease for the last seven years of his life. He went from brilliant artist, inventor, creator and intellectual to what could be described as a "child in need." As a family member and caretaker it was devastating to experience his decline.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please JOIN MY TEAM or MAKE A DONATION to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer’s. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer’s disease starts here.
