The Premer family lost their mother/grandmother, Maxine Premer to Alzheimer’s in 2004. Young-onset Alzheimer’s took our youngest brother Doug Premer in 2015.  Our oldest sister Darla Premer Thomas was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016.

Every family has been or will be touched by Alzheimer’s.  Our family has dedicated ourselves to helping find a cure through annual participation in Greeley’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year the walk is  September 29, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in Bittersweet Park. Our goal is to raise $5,000 towards this effort.  Please visit Team Premer's website at http://act.alz.org/goto/Team Premer. Select the "Donate to a Team" tab to make your contribution to Team Premer. A contribution of $120 or more is a  suggested amount by the Alzheimer’s Association, but any amount is greatly appreciated. The donation page provides and option for you to recognize and honor friends and family you lost to Alzheimer's. Walking in the Alzheimer’s Walk is optional, but it provides an opportunity for both information and inspiration.

The Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) states that Alzheimer’s is the only disease among the top 10 causes of death in America that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.  It is a slow, progressive and hideous disease that relentlessly and irreversibly causes damage to one’s brain cells.  Alzheimer’s is not part of the normal aging process. Average life expectancy, when diagnosed, is four to eight years.  Over that time period, caregivers, family, and friends endure the excruciatingly slow, steady mental and physical deterioration of loved ones. The financial and emotional toll on families is significant and often catastrophic.  Because incidents of Alzheimer's are rapidly increasing with longer life expectancy, it has become a significant social challenge. Ninety percent of what is known about Alzheimer’s has been discovered in the last 15 years. Only recently has public and charitably funded research begun to provide hope.

The Alzheimer’s Association allocates its funds in an ethical and responsible manner that exceeds the rigorous standards of America’s most experienced charity evaluator, the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. The Association also holds a National Charity Seal from the Alliance and 79 percent of contributions are directed to Alzheimer’s care, support, research, awareness, and advocacy.

Please join us in the quest for a cure.
