My mother, Shirley McHenry, suffered from Alzheimer's and in January 2020 unfortunately passed away. She was a strong and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. It was very difficult for her knowing what was happening, and for us to watch as well. This disease affects not only the individual but also the loved ones. At times my brother and I felt alone and helpless but we had each other. My brother and his family were there locally with her while I was here in San Diego doing all that we could. I am walking to show my love for her. I'm walking to show my ove and thankfulness for my brother and wife's selfless time and love they spent with her on a daily basis. I'm also walking to help others in letting them know they aren't alone in this.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
