My mother was tenacious and as she grew older kept her brain stimulated because she would always say “I don’t want to get Alzheimer’s”. But sadly, she did. My Amma was a teacher, and an avid reader. She tutored young kids and her happiest moments were when she was among these kids. It has been 10 years since she was relieved of her suffering, but to this day I recall the last conversation I had with her when she was more lucid than she had been in months.
Alzheimer’s disease is devastating. Just ask anyone who knows or loves someone with the disease. Though there has been progress made in the fight against this disease, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in areas of critical research, increasing awareness, providing caregiver support. The latest update is the FDA approval of a treatment for early stage Alzheimer's which has shown promise.
Friends, I am walking on October 5,2024 to help raise funds for this cause that I hope, in the near future can help all the mothers, fathers, and Spouses facing Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia. If you also believe in my cause, please make a donation as a show of support!!!
