I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the 2021 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care, and support.
I am walking in memory of Iris Mendonca, my mother, who passed away on September 21, 2016 from Alzheimer's. Mom once made a statement to me, "Lucille, I hope you NEVER get this dreadful disease!" It is because of this profound statement that I am dedicated to raising money for this cause!
I am also walking in memory of caregiver Leonard Mendonca, my father. Dad went down to visit mom at the rest home twice a day to sit with her in spite of the fact that mom no longer communicated or appeared to know we are there. Dad was a dedicated caregiver to his wife Iris during his lifetime.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Thank you for supporting Alzheimer's Association!
