On June 30, 2020, my sisters and I lost our mother, Kathleen Ahrens, to Alzheimer's disease, more than 10 years after the first serious signs had appeared. We sort of knew what to expect, because our grandfather had died of the disease, as well.
But those years were so hard. We watched our bright, funny, capable mother become someone who wasn't any of those things anymore. Her world became smaller and smaller, as we moved her from her lovely home in South Minneapolis to a senior housing apartment and, finally, to a memory care facility here in Napa, CA, where she passed away in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
We want to stop this disease. Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need help now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please consider donating to my page or that of my team, the Forget-Me-Nots. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
