How do I even begin to tell you our story... One way or another each of our staff at The Commons has been effected by this disease. We've had family members diagnosed, residents we care for diagnosed, family and friends lost to this disease. It is heartbreaking not only for each individual but also for the families involved. It is difficult to learn that your parent who has been your idol, your mentor, your super hero is loosing those memories you cherish so much. You see them gradually change from a simple misplacement of keys, stumbling on using the correct word to describe something, maybe forgetting your name. We ignore the signs, blame it on "old age", make excuses for them being "tired and confused". Unfortunately often times an unexpected hospital visit or wandering episode will happen for us to finally realize they need more help. Our staff has gravitated towards the senior living world all due to that compassion. To get that warm sense of accomplishment by helping someone in need. That feeling is not found at store, it is earned. The general public is not educated in this sickness and we are hoping to change that, lets fight for a cure to end Alzheimer
