I walk to honor the memory of my mother, Marcia. I walk to carry hope that my children won't have to take care of me with this thing. I walk to empower them to do something about that which they fear. I walk so this disease stops in THIS generation. I walk to see the first ever survivor. I walk for my friend Mary who fears she may be sick. I walk for my community. I walk for my family and friends.
The part that gets me the most... We're losing larger numbers of elders earlier than we should. The wisdom and experience they bring to our society is a priceless resource that brings balance to the lifecycle. More children are growing up without grandparents. More parents are raising children without the benefit of guidance from their elder parents. For me, the impact of this one aspect of Alzheimer's Disease is the most heart breaking. Our healthcare system, insurance rates, the social security system, caregivers' health, and families' financial security are all struggling to keep up.
from the distance there is the sound of nothing but I hear you anyway because I remember the sound of you where time keeps both rhythm and melody in my heart Kathryn Jurik
