I walk because I lost both my Great Grandmother, Johanna Scheiber who came from Schattdorf, Switzerland, and my Grandpa, Josef Gnos to this disease.
Johanna was one of 17 children in a small town in the Swiss Alps. Their home was a one room cabin high up on the mountain. Like the story of Heidi, when she was a young lady she was sent to work in the home of the wealthy Gnos family in town down in the valley. Their son fell head over heels in love with her and they got married and came to America to make their fortune in the west. While my Great Grandfather helped out the loggers in Oregon, Johanna would cook them meals and entertain with her singing. They had a family yodeling group, as seen in the picture above, with my Granpa Joe in the middle, Johanna on the right, and his sister on the left. They moved the family to Dixon and had 6 children, Joe being the eldest.
My Grandpa Joe had an amazing life, growing up working on the family farm in Dixon, Ca. He taught my mother how to farm and garden and she has passed that love of the earth on to me. Thank you for you time and walk with us to raise funds for a cure!!
