This year- our Actors & Artists Unite Santa Clarita team is dedicating our Walk to a lovely and gifted actor, Mary-Pat Green.
On September 9th- the entertainment industry lost a brilliant and gifted artist and we lost a beloved family member and dear and cherished friend.
Mary-Pat Green-just her name alone would bring joyful smiles to all who knew her. She was as kind and caring as she was strong and courageous. She was a force of nature- as an actor, she had such tremendous presence, that all eyes would shift to her. She was mesmerizing- she could make you laugh, cry, and touch your heart with her beautiful artistry.
Mary-Pat booked the Broadway production of “Candide” on her first audition in New York. No one was surprised. That role led to her being cast in the Broadway production of “Sweeney Todd.” She appeared in the Off-Broadway productions of “Nunsense” and “Mercy in the Galaxy.” She performed in the National tours of “Godspell” and“South Pacific” as well as in Regional Theatres nationwide- from “Showboat” at the Kenndy Center to “Steward of Christendom” at the Mark Taper Forum as well as “Fallen Angels” at the Pasadena Playhouse, “The Women” at The Old Globe and “Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole” at the Geffen Playhouse. She performed in several theaters in Chicago and in Southern California as well.
In addition- she was well known for her TV and Film work. This lady truly worked “across the board.” Films included “Fantastic Four,” “In Her Shoes, “The Breakup” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” TV roles included “American Horror Story,” “Friends,” “Desperate Housewives” and “The West Wing.”
She was an amazing actor who believed in being of service to her artistic community. She served for seven years as a member of the Actors Equity National Council. She was the kind of lady who would stand up for her fellow performers- always very graciously, but very directly as well. She was a loyal and giving friend. She had dozens of friends with whom she had done a show years ago, yet she made sure to stay in constant touch with them or see them whenever she visited New York. She was beloved and revered for her talent, warmth, and generosity.
I founded Actors & Artists Unite in 2011. She was one of the greatest champions of this team. Because she worked so much, she was never able to walk with us, but she would support us every year and call me every November- “How did Walkseason go?” That is who she was- you could always count on her.
She had lived with Alzheimer’s for the last few years of her life, yet she met that challenge with grace, humor, and tremendous courage. She was Mary-Pat and she was adored by her family and her extended family of friends and colleagues. She died on September 9th yet, her spirit continues to inspire and unite all of us- it always will. Flights of angels, dear friend. I know you are smiling down on all of us. Rest in peace, lovely lady. You were a wonder. Slainte!
Come walk with us on Saturday, September 28th at Bridgeport Park, 23670 Newhall Ranch Road, Santa Clarita Valley, CA. Registration begins at 8 AM and the Opening and Promise Flower Ceremonies begin at 9 AM followed by the Walk at 9:30 AM. All are welcome!
