Alzheimer’s and other dementias aren't stopping and neither am I. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and over 11 million family and friends provide their unpaid care.
My husband and I are two of those who provide housing and care for my mother, who has been afflicted with vascular dementia, while also working full-time jobs. I have several close friends who have had to watch or are currently watching their family members slowly disappear before their eyes due to Alzheimer's and other dementia diseases.
If this horrible disease has not touched you, consider yourself lucky. Imagine your mother, father, brother, sister, or spouse slowly losing themselves and their abilities to communicate, show expression, or handle simple daily duties such as preparing food, driving, or bathing.
They no longer recognize their children, remember their past, or know what's going on in the world around them. It's nothing less than heartbreaking. No one ever thinks they will be in this position and yet, many are.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or reach out to join as a member of our team.
Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart!
