Alzheimer's doesn't run in our family, and so we never considered it something that was possible. But, when mama started showing signs of significant cognitive shifts in 2013, she was worried and so were we. Fast forward to 2019, when she suddenly got lost going to the usual places around town, or needing to 'go see her parents,' long deceased, one evening after Halloween. And now, here in 2024, she can barely communicate, walk or even feed herself. It's cruel, endlessly sad and devastating to watch. While we mourn her and this disease that has taken so much of her from us, we know we must work to save the possibility of anyone in the future having to experience this same pain.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
