I walk for my dad who has dementia and has been battling this disease for over 6 years. I am blessed to be able to have been with my dad to the beginning of his appointments when he was being diagnosed. My dad is my hero. He has always been there when I was ever in need. He would give someone the shirt of his back if they needed it. When I was traveling one summer to see my friend graduate from high school and my car broke down coming home it was late at night and I called him to come resume me and my sister. He drove to come get us and ensure we made it home safely. When I was in college and at work I had no lunch money and I called and asked my dad if he wanted to take me to lunch. He said of course. My dad helped me to build a garden one summer when I wanted to, he taught me how to drive when I wanted to learn, and he also drove me around when I was 15 looking for a job. He would make sure I made it to work and I was picked up. I miss the “normal” conversations with my daddy. I appreciate and value the time I have with my daddy still. Some days he knows who I am and some days he doesn’t. I walk for my daddy.
