The Royal ALZ Gala began as an extension of a tradition close to our hearts. My husband, Brandon McBay, and I, Daniel New, hosted an annual Christmas party for years, bringing together friends and family. In 2022, we decided to channel the time, effort, and resources from our gathering into a cause that truly matters: the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. This decision was deeply personal—Brandon had recently lost his grandmother to Alzheimer’s, and I had lost mine a few years earlier to Dementia. We've also seen close friends affected by this devastating disease.
Our commitment to this cause led us both to join the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association Alabama Chapter, with Brandon now serving as Board President. Our first gala in 2022, held at our home, welcomed about 100 guests and raised over $15,000. The following year, we moved the event to a larger venue, drawing approximately 130 attendees and raising over $50,000.
Our hope is that, each year, we grow this event and involve more people in the fight against Alzheimer’s through advocacy and sponsorships as we enter into an era of treatment. We believe that by coming together, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against this disease and move closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.
