Dementia has taken a tremendous toll on my family. My father’s Alzheimer’s disease and my mother’s vascular dementia slowly, but surely robbed them of their strength, independence and sense of family. Fortunately, they both managed to hold onto their feisty and humorous personalities until the end.

I hate what Alzheimer’s and dementia stole from my family. I hate the constant grief and difficult choices my family has made as caregivers. And I hate that my parents’ great grandchildren will not have the opportunity to be inspired by my parents’ humor and wisdom.

I can’t stand idly by while Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia impact my life and the life of so many others throughout the world.  By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against dementia  — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
