Hello-My sisters and I started walking in the Fond du Lac County Walk to End Alzheimer's 8 years ago. Our mom was diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment at the age of 61. We started noticing that our mom seemed to get confused about things we had spoken to her about, forget things a lot easier and even got lost coming home from work. She of course thought she was just getting older and more forgetful. It started out with lots of tests and nothing being found. Basically once everything else was ruled out a neuropsychologist diagnosed her with Mild Cognitive Impairment. It was progressing very quickly and thankfully her primary doctor had already prescribed her with medication to help the progression slow down. At that time mom was still working a full and part time job and basically doing everything as normal. Here we are 10 years later and my mom is no longer working, driving, eating or walking on her own. We have a full time care giver for her during the week and we all help out in the evenings and weekends. It is so hard seeing our once independent mom need help with everything. I can be with her a full day and she won't even know who I am. I treasure all the time I have to spend with her and rely on our family and faith to get us through the hard times.

We are so thankful for the Alzheimer's Association to provide our family with education, support, and research to hopefully one day find a cure!!!
