Hi! My name is Roselyn Halvorson. I want to tell you about something I am passionate about - care for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
When I was little, I had the best Pappaw. He loved to sing to me and spend time with me. Slowly, I noticed he was forgetting things and repeating stories over and over. He had a terrible disease called Alzheimer’s Disease and he began to forget more and more. Even at the end, he still knew me! He had a bright smile every time I stepped in his room. I would tell him stories and sing him songs the way he used to do for me. Even when he fell asleep, I would stay next to him. He was my last grandparent and I really miss him.
Now I raise money every year to help the cause. I host a benefit pageant in my state every year too and all the royalty fundraise with me. I also paint canvas paintings to give to residents at memory care centers in my state. I’ve painted almost 1,200 so far!
Did you know that more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and it is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States? 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or other dementia. It is also the most expensive disease and will cost our country $321 billion this year. It is a big health issue! By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
