I am walking in the Walk to End Alzheimer's event in 2023 because this cause is very personal to me. I am walking this year for two reasons:  One is for my dad that passed away on July 19, 2020 and who was my mother's caretaker for 6 years.  The other is for my mom who passed away on August 4, 2020.  My dad took care of her 24/7 and never complained or asked for anything.  He is my hero.  We need to raise funds for research to hopefully find a cure so that the younger generation will have a chance to survive and live a normal life. I am also walking for my sister-in-law's mother, Sissy. Barb is amazing because she not only helps take care of her mom, but she helped  my brother, Jeff, take care of our mom as well. I also walk for my other sister-in-law's mother, Anne. These are amazing women that now struggle every day just to do simple things as their families watch by helplessly. 

This disease is horrible and all you can do is hope that there is an amazing care giver in their life. For me, that amazing caregiver was my dad. He devoted his life to make sure that mom was given the best care possible. My brother and his wife have also been so incredibly supportive and I am grateful for that as well.

I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
