Ten years ago, an Alzheimer’s diagnosis changed my life. I was 18 and barely able to comprehend what my grandma was going through. She was declining rapidly and it broke my heart. She soon forgot who I was, lost her ability to walk and do simple tasks for herself. Three years later, she lost her fight.

I would have gave anything for her to stay. I wanted her to watch me graduate.. to watch me get married.. have her hold my baby boy. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her.

And I know that she would have eventually had to leave us, but Alzheimer’s took the last few years we had together.

Not long after, my other grandmother became ill. Her dementia wasn’t as severe but it didn’t make things any easier. She lost her battle only a couple months after my son was born, in 2022. He never got to meet his great grandma.

Alzheimer’s has taken so much from my family, that we decided to fight back. We’re ready to see the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.
