I want to share why I am choosing to support the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. For the past 9+ years I have been working with an amazing team that specializes with complex issues that affect our aging population, one of those being Dementia (Alzheimer's is the most common type). Alzheimer's is a progressive disease that affects part of the brain that controls memory, thinking, learning and organizing. It eventually affects a person’s ability to carry out basic daily activities. I have watched many a patient, and their family, go through this journey and it is an awful one. I will be retiring at the end of October and I could not think of a better way to end my career then to support a cause dear to my heart. I love my Geri's (a term I use with endearment to the 65+ population, and yes I am one) and plan on volunteering in some capacity with the Alzheimer's Association.
