“I want to tell you how much I miss my mother. Bits of her are still there.
…I miss her most when I’m sitting across from her.”
- Candy Crowley
In that picture is a warm memory of my son and his great-grandma. It was the day after Christmas 2013. I remember it well, and how excited my grandma was to have guests. She knew that this little boy belonged to me, but tragically, she could not remember that I exist. In her mind, my mother was still in high school with no children, and I was just another friendly visitor. It was a moment that she will never remember.
The devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease continue to change my life and the lives of my family. That’s why I am joining my co-workers and thousands of other volunteers to make the next change a positive one.
I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.
Currently, more than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's and it is the most expensive condition in the nation. In 2022, the direct costs to American society of caring for those with Alzheimer's will total an estimated $321 billion. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments, and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
