The Walk to End Alzheimer's is a cause that is near and dear to me. In 2012, my grandfather Gene was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and from that moment our family had to watch the disease progress. He loved to drive, and one of the hardest things in the beginning was taking that away from him. Over the years, we watched the disease take over more aspects of his life until eventually he received care from hospice. My grandpa went to his heavenly home in February of 2017, after battling Alzheimer's. The sad part is I grieved the loss of my grandfather before he passed away, because as the disease progressed it took pieces of him away.
I walk in memory of my Grandpa Gene. I walk for all those facing Alzheimer's, and for their loved ones taking care of them. I walk so that future generations do not have to face this horrible disease. I love and miss you dearly, Grandpa!
Please consider joining Team Gene as we "Walk to End Alzheimer's” on Saturday, September 9th @ 9 am at Shoreline Park in Sandusky or by donating to help raise funds for awareness and research. Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
