I would like to personally invite and welcome every one of you to join our team for this years walk. We all have different reasons why we walk - for a relative who suffers from this devastating disease, for a loved one we've lost, for those we work with and for, to support friends who are caregivers or even so we can find a cure to protect the future of our children so that they will never have to know how heartbreaking this disease is. Near or far, I hope you consider participating in any way you can!!
I walk because I have seen how heartbreaking Alzheimer's is first hand. Imagine your son coming to visit you...and you have no idea who he is. I have seen that happen. A son came to visit his mother at one of our day programs. He was so excited to see her, it had been so long. We brought her into the room and we said "Look it's your son!" She looked at him, then looked back at us and said "I don't have a son." The heartbreak in his eyes has stayed with me through the years. This disease has to end. I can't imagine looking into Aidan's eyes and not know who he is.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
