My fight is two fold, and to me it's personal. Working for Home Instead, I watch how this disease impacts my clients, their families and caregivers. I also know first hand how hard it is watching this disease steal loved ones. I watched my Great Grammy Irene lose herself to this disease, and within the last few months watched the disease steal my Grandma (Birdie). I watched as memories and names escape her, as she retreats from conversation, as her moods shift suddenly. I watched as my mother, her primary caregiver, provides her care day in and day out and the toll that takes on a mother/daughter relationship. This disease is awful. It doesn’t just steal memories, it steals the person you knew; the person you love.

My fight is driven by the innocence of my children and my hope that they never have to see their grandparents forget their cherished memories!
