I'm walking to honor my mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease about 11 years ago, in her early 60's. My mother is the most loving and kind person I have ever known. She is the third oldest of 10 children and helped her parents raise her siblings. For many years she was a stay at home mother who raised three boys. Once her boys were school aged, she went to school to become a nurse, which was her lifelong dream. She has taken care of others almost her entire life. She taught us all how to love one another, and now it’s time that we give that love back to her.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
