Unfortunately, in life there are always limits.  With dementia those limits come differently than for most.  You physically have the person in your life much longer than you actually have the person.  With my dad his struggle was not as progressed when he left us in August 2022. He struggled with language, but he was mobile and loved to share so many stories and memories of his friends and family.  For mom, the journey has been long, and she continues to "live" with this dreadful disease. 

My parents deserved a better end of their stories than they have been given.  No one on earth will ever be able to explain to me why this happened and why to them.  But with every challenge we have faced in life, we tried to do something positive.  So here we are, walking against Alzheimer's and praying any and all contributions received can help go for research towards a cure.

Alzheimer’s and all forms of dementia are very much the forgotten illness.  Not only do the patients forget, but sadly our systems have forgotten them too.  Many Alzheimer drugs are not covered by insurance, not even Medicare.  Caregivers are not covered by insurance.  Even some LTC coverages do not cover you if you are fighting this disease.  

The Alzheimer's foundation is trying to get laws changed and do what it can to support family members who stay by their loved ones side, and to those struggling with this disease.  But they need help to fund that.
