Since our walk is next Sunday this is my last appeal for help to reach my goal. My family & I are again participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. I'm raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease - funds that allow the Alzheimer's Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
As many of you know my husband, Ed, has Alzheimer's. Ed is a 90% Disabled Vietnam Veteran. Besides Alzheimer he suffers from many illnesses associated to Agent Orange that he was exposed to in Vietnam. He has diabetes, high blood pressure & cholesterol, peripheral artery disease, chronic kidney disease, coronary artery disease & others.
Ed was always so active. If he wasn't working around the house he would always be available to help a neighbor, a friend or his family. He loved going to Disney World & going on special vacations since our retirement. Now he can't walk, speaks single sentences occasionally, needs help eating, cannot dress himself or take care of any personal hygiene. We recently had to place him in the Northport Veteran Long Term Care Unit. This was a very difficult & heartbreaking decision. Sometimes he knows me & can say my name when I ask him. Then there are times I can see the frustration in his eyes. It's heartbreaking.
I'm asking my family & friends to donate whatever you can. No donation is too small. You can also join our walk team & raise your own donations. We would love to have you.
Thank you for your help. Roe
