People are always asking me, "How's Jim?" What can I say for someone who must be coached to chew and swallow? But instead, I say, "He's doing the best he can." And he is!
Ambiguous grief and anticipatory loss for the caregiver caring for someone with Alzheimer's Disease gets harder and harder to handle. It's very challenging to watch the person you love so deeply lose their functionality during the severe stage of the disease. We are into our third year with this diagnosis, when Jim stopped being able to stand. It's exhausting!
I couldn't handle this journey if it weren't for my Alzheimer's Support Group, friends, family and various groups I belong to. I try to have a normal life as much as I can and help others as I am able.
Practicing mindfulness inspired me to name my team “To Enjoy Every Moment (TEEM)” in 2019. Jim is my beautiful flower and I'm with him every step of the way. But I gotta say, it's hard now, real hard.
I practice self-care, resilience, and balance. Being mindful, practicing breathwork, exercising, dancing, and being grateful for the little things keeps me going.
Please join Team TEEM to help us fight this devastating disease. Our focus has been to make Jim as comfortable as possible and provide him with a good quality of life. After all, isn't that what we all want for ourselves and our loved ones?
The money we raise is used for research, programming and support groups. Progress is being made in this area!
Thank you for your support, donations and for joining us in the fight against Alzheimer's!
