“Oh, that’s Uncle Shorty.  He went crazy before the end.” 

As with many illnesses and diseases that now have modern names, I wonder how many of our elders had Alzheimer’s and various forms of dementia, but were trivialized and dismissed as “gone ‘round the bend.”  Alzheimer’s took so much from us, but at least we knew what we were dealing with.   

And every day we learn more.  Do you know the difference between the “normal” memory loss of  aging and the onset of dementia?  We didn’t. And it blindsided us when we realized how far Mom had gone.  And that was just the beginning.  Learn more from the Alzheimer's Association website.
