I am walking in honor and in memory of my Grandmother Mary who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2004. Over the course of the disease I moved in with my grandparents to help be a caregiver for her. We kept her at home as long as we could but in May of 2014 we had to place her in a care facility. She passed away from this devastating disease on March 29, 2018. One of the biggest things I miss is when I used to walk into the room even though she couldn't recognize me she would still get this sparkle in her eye, smile and say "I'm still lovin' you!"
With her passing I will continue to honor the promise that I made to her. I promise to continue to fight and raise money toward ending this terrible disease. I will continue to advocate and make my voice heard. Continue to let people know that there are resources out there and available to them.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
