My grandmother, Mary Francis, was the strongest woman I've ever known. She worked hard and loved harder. There was always a lesson to be learned over a hot pot on the stove, or a song to be sung glorifying God, or a piece of fabric to learn to sew from her old patterns coupled with a laugh. And she had the BEST laugh! Although this disease robbed her of her memories, it never took her spirit. In our last shared moments, she provided instructions for wedding dresses and partnership, she perked up enough to display her love for us, and as we were gathered around her as a family, we got to share a few last laughs that we will cherish forever. Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research. Funds that we hope get us to a place where no one else loses someone they love before they're gone.
