Our mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in her mid 70s. Our family was noticing her confusion, but she was very good at covering her issues. Our father was her caregiver. As time went by, he was having more health issues due to the stress of taking care of our mom. Our family made the hard decision to have her move to a memory care facility, but our dad said he & our mom promised each other that they would not put each other in a faculty. My dad moved into memory care with her. Our mom passed away from Alzheimer at 89. Our father moved into assisted living for 3 years, and passed away at 92.
This terrible disease affects everyone in the family. You watch the people you love slowly forget you, and the memories you shared. You wrestle with not being able to "fix" them. And when they are gone... did you do enough, could you have done more..... Did you support the caregivers enough? Thanks dad !!
We have 2 cousins, Sharon 79 & Loni 69 currently battling this disease . They are sisters. Our prayers go out to their family and friends as they deal with this terrible disease.
