Alzheimer’s disease is a horrible diagnosis. It’s a thief. It robs people not only of their memories, but also their ability to function and care for themselves. It takes away the ability of their family members to just be a daughter, son, or spouse. It turns them into caregivers and interrupts the grieving process.
I was fortunate to be in a position where I could care for my father the last few weeks of his life. Although I am a NP, it was still hard. Its hard to be ok and have my Dad ok with me providing personal care. It’s hard to see the dad that raised and cared needing that care himself. He was so strong and would do anything for anyone.
I am hoping to do my part to raising money to fight this horrible disease so no one has to go through what my Dad and family went through.
