Until my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia in 2012, I had no idea that it was what some referred to as senile, and that we witnessed it in my grandmother. While caring for her, I realized in horror that the disease had in fact stolen 9 other family members- each time, stealing memories, dreams, and ending lives. My oldest brother lost his battle three days from his 70th birthday this past December. 12 family members have now gained their wings. Another is currently engaged in battle.
My mother always faced challenges head on - even as she transitioned from this life. Despite multiple health conditions, being a caregiver to her mother and aunt, both victims of Alzheimer's, and losing my father to cancer, and her own battle with the monster within, She NEVER stopped fighting. I recall the most important lesson she taught me - Always fight when you feel like giving up. I am determined now, more than ever.
I am committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, education, care, and support. My goal is to raise $1000 but I need your support! I invite you to join us in the fight and take the first step toward a world without Alzheimer's. Your donation may be key to creating the first survivor. You may also join my team and I on Oct. 8, 2022, at the Flat Lot in downtown Flint. Your voice and fundraising can and will make a difference until we have a World Without Alzheimer's. The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with each one of us.
Thank you,
