About 6 years ago our dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. It was a day that would not only change his life, but that of his beloved wife Laurette, his 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and countless others who love the man affectionally known as “Hon”, “Dad”, “Papa", “Bob”, “Uncle Bobby”, and “Monocle”. Together, we all began down a path that although was filled with much uncertainty and frustration, it was also filled with love and compassion. We set out to learn as much as we could about a disease that was now front and center in all our lives, and more importantly, learn how we can best love and support our dad along the way.
Over the last 6 years two very simple truths emerged for us….
ONE, this disease sucks (I apologize for my bluntness, but that is the only word that truly emulates it), not only for our dad who slowly began to lose pieces of himself, but also for his family who at times feel helpless and can only fight to ensure that Alzheimer’s never gets hold of the core of the man…a core filled with Love! That my friends, is a fight we will never lose.
TWO, we must do all we can to help those currently living with Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as those who have yet to be diagnosed, by helping to fund vital research that will aid in advancing treatment options as well as working towards prevention. So please, join us in this fight—Join our team, Bob’s Spiegel Grove Shellbacks, and walk with us on October 15, 2023 for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research...or donate—even better, do BOTH .
