This cause is extremely important to me. I'm walking for my Grandmother, Dorothy Mae Rumph Wilkin, and my Mother-in-law, Lynne Mary North Spencer. Dorothy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the mid 1980s, and Lynne never had a formal diagnosis but suffered for her last several years starting around 2015. Dementia stole the last part of their lives from them and everyone who loved them. To me, dementia is my worst nightmare. I was a caregiver to each of them and I have also been caregiver to others through my work with Home Instead. Every day, our staff speaks to clients and their families who are affected by this horrible disease. This disease steals so much more than memories, and affects so many. Statistically, you probably have at least one friend or family member affected.
