We formed Team George for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in 2009 after Sandy's Dad was lost driving all over the state of Indiana for 30+ hours, simply trying to drive to his weekly bowling league in November 2008. Mom stayed by his side until he passed in 2013. Her health would slowly decline, though not from "classic" Alzheimer's like my father, but from dementia. She spent her last few years in a Memory Care unit passing away in 2021. And now, Gary's mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's this year, so now this journey begins again. Its heartbreaking to watch your parents, who were once sharp and active, decline over the years in front of our eyes. This OUR why! It is critically important to support the Alzheimer's Association and their mission to find a cure to end this horrible disease, once and for ALL!
An estimated 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia. In the United States alone, more than 6 million have Alzheimer’s, and over 11 million are providing unpaid care. The Association addresses this crisis by providing education and support to the millions who face dementia every day, while advancing critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
We need your support to do our part! Please keep the all those affected by Alzheimer's in your prayers, make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's AND/OR make plans to join our team and walk with us this year! By participating, you will help the millions already affected by the disease, the Association that offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement!
The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
Love, Sandy & Gary deCastro
